I am a Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Head of the Head and Neck Unit, and Honorary Reader at The Royal Marsden Hospital and The Institute of Cancer Research in London and Sutton. I specialise in treating patients with head and neck cancers using advanced radiotherapy techniques such as IMRT and IGRT.
I lead the research programme at the ICR/RMH investigating the role of circulating HPV DNA in HPV-related cancers. On the technical side, I oversee the implementation of MR-Linac for head and neck cancers at The Royal Marsden Hospital. My other research interests include exploring the molecular determinants of response to chemotherapy and radiotherapy in both tumours and normal tissues in head and neck cancer.
I am a co-investigator on several national and international clinical trials focused on cutting-edge radiation techniques and novel combinations of drugs and radiation, including immunotherapy, in head and neck cancer.
I completed my general medical training at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and my specialist training at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust and University College Hospitals, London. I was awarded a PhD in Radiation Oncology in 2009. To date, I have published over 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals and have received competitive research fellowships as well as international awards for my research.
