Travelling to London for treatment means relocating for several weeks, which naturally has a significant effect on you and your family. Rest assured, if you do decide to travel from Qatar to the UK, our team is here to support you throughout.

We can help with:

  • Travel and accommodation in London – Guidance with flights, visa requirements and accommodation.
  • Appointment planning – You will receive a clear plan showing the dates of your consultations, imaging and treatment sessions.
  • Practical day-to-day support – We can help find your way around, organise groceries, and suggest transport options and places to visit during your stay.
  • Communication and continuity of care – With your consent, we coordinate closely with your medical team in Qatar so that everyone involved in your care is informed and aligned.

We understand that many patients from Qatar want their family close by during treatment. Family members are welcome to accompany you, and we will do all we can to help you feel comfortable during your stay. Each patient is assigned a dedicated patient care co-ordinator, a named contact who will be with you every step of the way. If it would be helpful, your advocate can arrange an Arabic interpreter so that you and your family can discuss your care clearly.

We can also help you plan practical details that may be important to you and your family, such as nearby prayer facilities and halal dining options.

Throughout your time with us, you can expect clear communication and a friendly point of contact, so you feel well looked after from the moment you arrive until you return home.

What is proton beam therapy and how does it work?

Proton beam therapy is an advanced form of radiotherapy used to treat certain types of cancer. Rather than the X-rays (photons) used in conventional radiotherapy, it uses high-energy protons. This allows our clinicians to direct a precise dose of radiation at the tumour, while reducing the exposure to the surrounding healthy cells.

For this reason, it can be a particularly suitable treatment for tumours located close to sensitive structures, such as the bowel, brain and spine.

The benefits of proton beam therapy include:

  • Effective cancer treatment – Proton beam therapy uses radiation to damage cancer cells in the treatment area, helping to control or destroy them.
  • Lower risk of side effects – Because proton beam therapy is more precise than conventional radiation therapy, it offers greater protection to nearby healthy tissues and organs. This can mean fewer short-term and long-term side effects.
  • Greater tumour control – Its precision means that, for some tumours, a higher dose of radiation can be delivered than would be possible with conventional radiation therapy.
  • Gentler for young, developing bodies – Proton beam therapy is particularly valuable when treating children with cancer, as it limits the radiation reaching healthy, developing tissue.
  • Painless and non-invasive – Proton beam therapy is delivered externally and is painless, although side effects such as skin irritation can occur.
